The Road Home: Cormac McCarthy's Imaginative Return to the South

Cormac McCarthy is one of the major authors of contemporary Southern and American literature. After twenty years of novels set in the southwest borderlands, McCarthy has revisited the Appalachian setting of his first four novels in his new work, The Road. In response, this conference will reconsider the relationship of the McCarthy canon to the contemporary Southern and American literary tradition.
Registration
The conference registration is US$185 for non-Society members, and US$170 for Society members and for all active-duty military personnel. A late fee of US$25 will be charged for all enrollments received after April 10, 2007.
Each conference attendee will receive the following:
- Welcome reception drinks and hors d’oeuvres on Wednesday, April 25.
- Continental breakfast on the Thursday and Friday.
- Lunch on Thursday and Friday.
- Full refreshment service (teas, coffees, soft drinks, etc.) for the duration of the conference.
- Formal closing dinner to be held at the prestigious Regas restaurant in Knoxville (the restaurant is mentioned several times in Suttree).
- All conference materials, such as a full program.
- Transport for the literary tour to be held on Saturday, April 28.
