Proposal deadline extended for Austin conference

Due to McCarthy’s recent publication of an essay in the journal Nautilus, as well as by popular demand, we are extending the proposal deadline for the Fall 2017 Cormac McCarthy Conference to May 1.

To reiterate the conference information:

Fall 2017 Cormac McCarthy Conference, Sept. 1-3, Austin, Texas

Papers on all topics relating to the works of Cormac McCarthy, from all perspectives, are invited, including considerations of theatrical productions or film adaptations of his work, pedagogical approaches, and the relationship of McCarthy’s work to other authors or artists.

Please submit a brief abstract of the proposed paper as a Word doc or PDF by email to the Cormac McCarthy Society at no later than May 1, 2017.

Proposals for complete panels are welcome as well. Please include titles and abstracts for at least three participants.

The conference will take place in the downtown Hilton hotel (500 E. 4th St.) in Austin, right in the midst of some of Austin’s best restaurants and coffee shops—not to mention other landmarks like the Alamo Drafthouse theater, the Mexic-Arte Museum, the Elephant Room jazz club, Iron Works BBQ, and Voodoo Doughnut.  The Hilton conference rate for single and double rooms (which is available from Aug. 31 through Sept. 3) is $189/night. When you’re ready to reserve a room, you can call the Hilton at 512-482-8000 and give the group code “CMC,” or you can go to this website:
