This long awaited special issue of The Cormac McCarthy Journal contains the best of the papers from the 2004 “Suttree Come Home” conference in Knoxville, Tennessee. Many have been expanded and amplified, and contributors include such stellar McCarthy critics as Chip Arnold, Dianne Luce, Peter Josyph and Wes Morgan. The fourteen essays in this large volume constitute the only dedicated collection of commentary on McCarthy’s Appalachian period masterpiece, and cover just about every aspect of the novel from its historical settings and the colorful Knoxvillians McCarthy transformed into his memorable characters, literary antecedents, political dimensions, and even the music of the language itself.
