The main sessions of the conference will take place on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. We’ll run the same schedule we’ve used, quite successfully, for the past (this is hard to believe but true) 22 years: two 90-minute sessions of four papers each or panel discussions from 8:30 a.m. – noon with a refreshment break in between, and two sessions structured the same way from 2 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. before dinner break. On Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m., we’ll have our plenary dinner session and guest speaker.
On Thursday, October 8, we will open registration at 1 p.m. outside the River Room in the University Center where our sessions will be held. Also on Thursday afternoon, we will hold a 90-minute remedial session in the River Room for papers by University of Memphis undergraduates, other undergraduates, and graduate students presenting conference papers for the first time. Those presentations will be followed by a discussion with more experienced conference participants about how to sharpen presentations. If you are a first-time conference presenter, please let us know this when you submit your paper proposals per the call for papers below, and we’ll try to schedule you into the remedial session so that you can present with your peers and gain some valuable insights from seasoned conference veterans. If there is a sizable turnout for this conference, we may also run an early regular session on Thursday afternoon prior to the welcome reception and formal greetings. The reception will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Fountain Room at the University Center.
