Anyone here collect books? I just got a first edition of The Road. The dust jacket has some scuffs, a lot of scuff actually. I was wondering if it would be worth cleaning/repairing the jacket, and if so what would you do to get rid of the scuff marks?

We have a thread on collectible Cormac McCarthy books:

I sold my first editions of THE ROAD early on and, as they printed a ton of them in first edition, I did not think it worthwhile to restock the book. I have not kept up on the recent prices but I can tell you that the first edition market has been going down every year since the turn of the century.

As Woody Allen’s character said in the 2011 film, Midnight In Paris, “it is a rare person these days who collects rare books.”

I could give you some book-cleaning tips, but the equivalent professional advice in great detail is available with a casual search on Google and probably on Youtube as well.
