There’s some interesting discussion on the Vintage Contemporaries series book covers in the link that will follow shortly. Of note, McCarthy’s editor Gary Fisketjon shares some thoughts about the Suttree cover and additional details on CM and book covers in general. The late Lorraine Louie designed the Suttree cover and artist Marc Tauss created the cover photo illustration. I like the artwork on it and on many of the other Vintage Contemporaries covers, launched in 1984 by Random House:

“Reads like a doomed Huck Finn,” says the NYT Book Review in one of the blurbs on the back of my pristine copy.
