We’re survivors he told her across the flame of the lamp.
    Survivors?
    Yes.
What in God’s name are you talking about? We’re not survivors. We’re the walking dead in a horror film.

Andrew Lincoln is the big star of AMC’s hit TV show The Walking Dead. In a recent episode (Season 5, Ep. 10), he uttered the same memorable line about the walking dead as the wife in The Road (blockquote above). Interestingly, Lincoln, whose character is called Rick Grimes in the show, has said The Road is his favorite book (for more on that, see the story in the link in a followup post).

With a little context to set up the phrase, here is how it went down in The Walking Dead television program:

Rick proceeds to tell the story about his grandfather, a World War II veteran. As a kid, Rick used to ask his grandpa if he ever killed anyone in the war, but never received an answer. Instead Rick’s grandfather explained how he survived the war, and how he survived people trying to kill him.
“Every he woke up and told himself, ‘Rest in peace; now get up and go to war,'” says Rick. “After a few years of pretending he was dead, he made it out alive. That’s the trick of it, I think. We do what we need to do, and then we get to live. No matter what we find in D.C., I know we’ll be okay. This is how we survive: We tell ourselves that we are the walking dead.”
