I don’t want to overestimate my statements but once you find out what it means it drastically changes your understanding of his books.

    Well, that would be something.

However, I doubt it. I don’t think that 117 or 1:17 has any meaning at all other than what we bring to it. The universe is so arranged that things will line up, sync, so that from one vantage point, the I CHING is relevant, from another, Revelations is relevant. Lord, the eggs in some of McCarthy’s works look like Easter eggs, fraught with connotations throughout literature.

And thus, I cannot believe that yours will be the ultimate of Easter eggs. I have seen too many such wonders to be surprised by yet another.

That doesn’t mean that I am not interested in what you have to say.

I’m offering you here something worth more than 99% of your research work and I can’t keep you interested. 😀

You’re saying that you have come up with a key (easter egg) in the text of McCarthy that will top 99 percent of the extant research?

    That lacks any credibility.

I believe that new interpretations are certainly possible, forever, but they will be no more or less truer than the interpretations that we now have.

You seem naive to think otherwise.

Nah, I just want to know if I’ll get credit for it if I reveal what it means.

Well, the way to go about it is to write it up and submit it as a scholarly work. Many publications would look at such a submission, but the Cormac McCarthy Journal or its affiliations would be your best bet. Moreover, by submitting a synopsis to one of the scholars at the Cormac McCarthy Society, you’d get the best advice and assistance should your contribution seem valuable, and also they might save you some embarrassment should your ideas have been previously published.

Scholars read the other scholars to prevent such a case. It is like a work ethic for scholars.

There are independent interpretations that have been published taking independent courses, but to my knowledge they are lonely and unprofitable ventures. There have been several skeleton key studies of James Joyce’s works, for example, and I love them all, but without a commercial press backing them they were losing propositions for their authors. Not that they weren’t good.

Fiction, as hard as it is to publish, is immensely more popular than studies of fiction, no matter how profound. That is just a fact of life.

I could explain it here but (and it is a real breakthrough) I have concerns I’ve mentioned before. On the other hand, I don’t have the experience publishing in journals.
